Brain teasers are a great way to hone critical thinking and problem solving skills and they are a lot of fun at the same time. Brain teasers can draw from a great many education sources and skill sets such as English, math, science and history but their main function is to cause the brain to examine the riddle or puzzle presenting and analyze it from multiple angles in order to find the correct answer. Often brain teasers will ask a question that seems to be begging for one answer but has an answer that is cleverly shielded in some way, hopefully teaching the individual embarking to answer the brain teaser how to operate outside of the box.

Brain teasers are a great way to stimulation the brain and keep the mind functioning at a higher level throughout one’s lifetime. It has been proven in multiple studies that individuals involved in regular brain stimulation activities such as reading, playing an instrument of some sort, or doing crosswords puzzles (as just a few examples) have better chances of retaining their memories, sharp-mindedness, and sensory perception as they age. Those that neglect to engage their minds in some form of regular brain activity are more likely to develop memory-loss and decreased sensory perception later in life. Many doctors that treat patients with strong family histories of dementia related illnesses in old age recommend that their patients begin to participate in some form of brain teaser or brain game activities on a regular basis as soon as possible in order to bolster there chances of keeping memory-loss and the like at bay.

Brain teasers are a great teaching tool. They are basically just fun riddles and puzzles that can encourage group or individual critical thinking and problem solving, skills that are extremely important throughout every aspect of life. Having a sharp mind might not seem like an extremely imperative thing day in and day out but those that have found themselves in tough situations where they have been unexpectedly called upon to make a snap judgment that could lead to dire consequences are able to express the value of split-second critical thinking and analysis. While most people are never put in life or death situations where fatal decisions must be made in the blink of an eye, the fact is that the time could come and the being prepared for that moment is something that brain teasers can help everyone achieve.
