MEETING NOTES
|
|
To
avoid future confusion a suggestion
was made that items turned by guest turners should be
property of NCWT. Officers
can negotiate with the paid demonstrator for terms that are in
the best interest of the club.
It is desired that any item turned by a paid
demonstrator remains the property of the club.
This was restated in the form of a motion, seconded and approved
by the attending membership. Dues to become an NCWT member
are $60: $40 for
national AAW dues and $20 for local NCWT dues.
Any member of NCWT must also be a member
of AAW. If you already have a current
membership in AAW, you need only pay the $20
local fee. At the time of the January meeting, 65
members had not paid 2005 dues and 24 members had paid local
dues but had not joined AAW. Please see Treasurer Paul
Kosmos with any questions regarding dues.
There will be a
mini-auction held this May to
'dispose' of the older mini-lathes and some items left over
from the December auction, including some professionally
turned items.
NCWT Shirts and Nametags are available. See
June Maier for nametags.
Our Raffle collected
$64 this month.
Items are needed for the raffle, along with your support.
Please purchase tickets and take a chance on winning some
really good stuff.
On
behalf of the club,
Rick Maier has applied for an AAW grant of $1000.

LESS-EXPERIENCED
TURNERS - BACK TO BASICS
by Rick Maier
On Feb. 5 we will have
our LET-BTB program from 1 to 3:30 PM. 18 have signed up for the
program. We'll see how many show up. Bring your own tools, must be
sharp. We will have some available.
DON'T FORGET YOUR
SAFETY GLASSES. YOU CANNOT TURN WITHOUT THEM. WE WILL DRAW FOR LATHE
ASSIGNMENTS. WE WILL HAVE SOME WOOD, BUT EACH OF YOU SHOULD BRING SOME
OF YOUR OWN. 2" X 2" X 12" PREFERABLY HARD WOOD.
(CHERRY, MAPLE, OAK, ETC.) IT TURNS EASIER AND TEACHES BETTER THAN
CHEAP PINE. KING WILL BE IN CHARGE, BUT WE HOPE TO HAVE AN INSTRUCTOR
FOR EACH LATHE. FOR EACH OF YOU WHO SIGNED UP, REMEMBER, ANY JOURNEY
REQUIRES THE FIRST STEP AND THE SECRET TO BEING A MASTER IS PRACTICE,
PRACTICE, PRACTICE.

NEWS BITS

Tim
Reid -
Always front and center for NCWT demos. He often became personally
involved as indicated by this picture of Tim at the Stuart Batty demo.
He added life and humor to our meetings on a regular basis. Traveling
all the way from Erie, PA to attend NCWT meetings, Tim took time to
admire the works of others and add his skills and suggestions to our
club. Tim passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2005. Our wishes
and prayers go out to Tim's family and friends. He will be truly
missed by many!
