President's Turn
by George Raeder

We have a truly unique opportunity coming up at our November NCWT meeting.  Stuart Batty will be our featured demonstrator all day Saturday and Sunday, November 6th and 7th. In my humble opinion, Stuart is among the best five woodturners, demonstrators, and teachers of our craft in the world. We are fortunate to have him available, and each of you should make every attempt to witness his presentations.

On a totally different subject, as my term as president winds down, I would like to comment on an issue that has bothered me for some time.  I feel that some of the physical handling of Show and Tell and Turn and Learn objects should exhibit more respect for the maker. I have noticed pieces being picked up with sticky donut fingers, items of some delicacy being set down harshly, and items slid across the benches and tables which are usually somewhat dirty with wood shavings, grit and dust. Regardless of the ability of the maker, each piece is representative of a proud owner. I feel as such these items should be handled carefully and with respect. Each of us should please act accordingly. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

  • Note from Paul LaLonde

Regrettably I am being transferred to Chicago for the immediate future

(at least the next 2 years). Was hoping to see all of you at next

meeting but move was kind of unexpected and we have been caught up in

the details and already unpacking boxes at our new home. Hopefully will

get a chance to stop in the Cleveland area from time to time as I will

certainly miss the NCWT. I will welcome emails any time. Planning to

join up with Chicago Wood Turners while I'm here to keep my hand in.

Best Regards,

Paul LaLonde
