WELCOME VISITORS

President's Turn
by George Raeder

I hope that each of you had a wonderful holiday season and that your turnings given to relatives and friends were truly appreciated. A new year is upon us and we have much to be thankful for. The NCWT Club can certainly be thankful after a fun filled auction and net sales of almost thirty-one hundred dollars. That is the highest total yet for our yearly event. Thank you all for the high quality donations and your willingness to purchase.  And a special thanks to auctioneer Tom Nero who even got me to pay eleven dollars for a ten dollar Rockler gift certificate!

Moving forward, the new year gives us an opportunity to be resolute in our support of NCWT. Not with easily broken New Year's resolutions, but with a new commitment to our club and association. With a new commitment to our hobby, to improve our skills, to add variety to our projects, to learn from and teach others, and to offer assistance and support to NCWT activities. Commit to donate our surplus wood for our monthly raffles, commit to bring in our current work for the show and tell table, commit to enter the turn and learn event each month for in the end you will be the benefactor by learning new skills. Lastly on this subject, donate a little of your time to NCWT.

Volunteer to contribute your skills for the benefit of others, be it finishing techniques, wood selection, tool making, interesting computer websites,. or simply turning tips. Volunteer for the tasks and jobs required to make this organization viable and worthy of our time. We will all benefit, especially you!

Woodworm Record!

by Jim Pugh

John Blainer is going for a new worlds (well, maybe Ohio) record for the most wood worms removed from a rough-turned bowl. On this Wednesday in November (11/12), while at my shop, he roughed out a piece of wormy ash. When he had reached the inside depth that he wanted he could see worms everywhere. (Wonder how many bounced off of his face shield)??. Over the next hour he picked out 13 wood worms, most in the 3/16" diameter by 3/4" long size. After he got home he picked out 7 more and said that there is still one more (at least) still munching away in there. We figure that if he hadn't noticed the worms hard at work the bowl would have been reduced to a handful of rubble in about a week. Anyway, 20 worms, going on 21. Can anyone top that?
