We have 20 members who have signed up to exhibit, 14 for a full table and 6 more to put items out on 4 “club” tables. We will have two lathes to do demos on during the two days, our Delta-Midi and their bigger Delta. Both with 1”x8 spindle. [I will ask some of you to bring a bit to wood and a few tools so we can make some small/medium interesting turnings.] You may sell at the show. If you have never been to the show it’s great. 80+ tables. And some commercial exhibits with carving tools, supplies, etc. Easy parking and food available on premises.
JUDGING
We voted to have a judging and awards for submitted turnings. These are to be submitted by 9AM on Saturday. You’re NOT judged on what you put out on the general exhibit tables! There is a separate judging room for the entered carvings and turnings. The carvers are limited to table holders entering items. Since we have “club” tables we can have entries from other club members. But one of our exhibitors should put it in for you and retrieve it. Please cover your name on the bottom with a piece of masking tape if need be. Each will be tagged with the table # only of the submitter.
There will be five categories as listed below. There will be ribbons for First, Second and Honorable Mention in each category and an overall Best Turning of Show. We really want to encourage entries so that there is enough material to show off our best work. We may not award all ribbons if a category does not have enough meaningful entries, so if you are one of our exhibitors, please enter your 5 item
limit! Note: if you have an individual table you are also eligible to enter the carving judging!
1. Bowl forms [any size, any wood/material]
2. Platter forms [ht to wth ratio < 1:8, any size, any material]
3. Closed or lidded form [any size, any material]
4. Spindle turned form [any size, any material - a “pair” is one item]
5. Miniatures [< 2x2x2”, any material - three such items mounted (firmly!) on a 4-6” disk together can enter as a single entry]
We want enough entries that the judges [3] selections can have some real discrimination, so we are allowing each member to enter five total items, but only two in any one category! The judging will be done between 9 and 10 AM and items can be retrieved immediately thereafter and then may be exhibited and/or sold.
Turning entries need to be signed and dated (if possible). Name will then be covered by a small piece of masking tape. Turning entries must have an entry ticket that will contain the name/description of turning and the entrant’s table number. Judging of turnings will occur between 9 and 10 am. Then pieces must be picked up and/or returned to entrant tables.
The award ribbons: Following GLWC format: A 1st, 2nd and Hon. men. in each catetory, but no ribbon if judges think none justified. It would be nice to also have a ribbon/judging for the five first places to be judged for Best of Show. We will work on a reasonable set of three judges, but use the GLWC entry receiver if they are willing to do this for us.
TABLES
To jog your memory these members have individual tables: Jim Duxbury, King Heiple, Jim Pugh, Don
