Is Medical Malpractice Really a Problem?

Without fail politicians love to stand up and tell us that we need tort reform to help reduce medical insurance.  But is this really true?

For those people who care to know the truth, frivolous medical malpractice lawsuits don’t occur nearly as much as you think.  But what may really surprise you is the amount of medical mistakes that actually occur each year.

If you read the medical malpractice article, it cites the fact that almost 100,000 people each year die from medical mistakes.  This puts medical mistakes in the top 10 causes of death in the United States each year.

To put this in perspective, more people die each year from medical malpractice then they do from breast cancer.  If 90,000+ people died each year from a soft drink, do you think there would be a public outcry?

What if almost 100,000 children died in a specific type of crib?  Wouldn’t people want to know this; wouldn’t they want to protect themselves and their children?  But yet, when almost 100,000 people die because of the negligent actions of a trained medical professional, this goes unnoticed.
