Bill Collectors Failing to Identify Themselves
What signifies failure of a bill collector to identify himself?
By law, bill collectors or collection agency representatives who contact consumers by phone are required to identify who they are. Consumers who have caller ID on their telephone, the company name must appear when calling. For those who do not have caller ID, the bill collector must give the company they are representing and their name. The FDCPA also requires collection agencies give the following:
Inform you that you have the right to dispute your debt
Gives complete description of the debt and the amount
Provides the address and the name of the original creditor
When a collection agency, collection attorney or bill collector infringes upon your FDCPA rights, contact an experienced FDCPA attorney.
